MICAT is the MICA admission test conducted for admission into the MICA School of ideas for the flagship course PGDM-C (Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Communications).This programme is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Association of Indian University (AIU) since 1995 and thus equates to an MBA degree. The exam is endorsed by the best corporate houses in India and abroad.
MICAT is usually conducted twice between December and February every year. This year, MICAT I 2018 exam was conducted on December 17, 2017, and the results have already been announced on January 3, 2018.
MICAT Dates 2018
The application process for MICAT II 2018 has started from January 3, 2018. The last date to apply for the MICAT 2018 is February 5. MICAT II 2018 is scheduled to be held on February 17, 2018, in a computer-based exam.
MICAT 2018 Eligibility:
It is mandatory that the candidates apply to MICA with their scores of CAT 2017 / XAT 2018 /GMAT. However, candidates will be called for MICAT irrespective of their scores in the exam. The candidate has to just ensure that the application form is complete and accepted by MICA.
The candidate should have had a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
Candidates appearing for final year graduation examinations are also eligible to apply.
MICAT Exam pattern 2018
MICAT is a computer-based test of 2 hours and 45 minutes duration. The paper consists of 140 descriptive as well as objective type questions which are spread across 6 sections namely
- Psychometry- 35 questions
- Verbal ability- 25 questions
- Quantitative ability- 25- 27 questions
- General awareness- 25 questions
- Divergent-Convergent Reasoning- 30 questions
- Descriptive test – 4 questions
Psychometry test is conducted in the first 25 minutes while the rest of the time is distributed to other sections.
There are no negative marks for Descriptive and Psychometric sections. While 0.25 % of the allotted marks will be deducted for every wrong answer in VA, QA, GA, and DCR.
Based on scores obtained in MICAT, candidates will be called for Group Exercise (GE) and Personal Interview (PI).
The purpose of GE is to assess a candidate’s personality, thought the process and team spirit. PI helps to determine a candidate’s knowledge, determination, maturity, and fit in the culture of MICA.
MICAT syllabus 2018
- Psychometric test:
This test is designed to analyze the candidate’s behavioral characteristics and attitude towards circumstances. It is mandatory to attempt all the questions in this part. It is expected that this section is 35 questions.
- Verbal ability
This section tests the candidate’s grammar and vocabulary. There are approximately 25 questions covered in this section.
The important topics in this section are:
- Reading Comprehension etc
There is a 0.25 penalty for each wrong answer.
- Quantitative ability
As the name tells, quantitative ability analyses a candidate’s basic math solving skill. This section has around 25-27 questions. The important topics in this section are:
- Set theory
- DI etc
Similar to verbal ability, this section also has a 0.25 penalty for every wrong answer.
- General Awareness:
This section is designed to test the candidate’s level of awareness of the current affairs of Business, Companies, Economics etc. The candidates, therefore, must keep themselves updated on those lines. The important topics covered in this section are:
- Indian constitution
- Science and research
- Advertising and Marketing
- Brands and Media etc.
It is expected that this section will have 25 questions. Here too, the penalty for a wrong answer is 0.25.
- Divergent- Convergent Reasoning
As the name tells, this section is designed to test the reasoning skills and divergent thinking capability of the candidate. Here it deals with statement assumption, verbal reasoning, and word assumption. Below listed are the important topics in this section.
- Statement- Assumption
- Sequence and Series
- Data sufficiency
- Word association
- Visual Reasoning etc
The number of questions in this section will be around 30. There is a 0.25 marks penalty for every wrong answer.
- Descriptive test
This section is designed to test the creative writing skills of the candidate. There is no negative marking in this section and the number of questions expected is 4.
MICAT Admit card:
Admit cards for MICAT 2018 are now available for download on the official website. The candidates who have registered for the exam successfully will be able to download their respective admit cards by using their login credentials.
There are separate admit cards for MICAT I and MICAT II. Thus those who will be appearing in both the tests must download separate admit cards for both.

The admit cards will contain following information:
Name of the candidate
The candidates must check if the information printed on the admit card is correct or not. In case of any discrepancy, they must immediately get it rectified by contacting the MICA admission office. The candidates should keep the admit card safe until the end of the exam.
MICAT Selection Process
The selection process of MICAT is based on certain parameters. I have listed them below:
- Aspirants must have a valid score in one of the entrance exam CAT/XAT/GMAT.
- They need to appear for both the MICAT exam held that year.The best of the two will be taken.
- The candidates need to have a decent score in Psychometry.
- GE and PI score is taken into account. Candidates need to score at least 3.5 out of 5 scales in GE and 4 or more on a 5 point scale.
- There should be a unanimous recommendation by all the panel members.
Based on the above factors, a final merit list will be prepared by the panel members.
Below is the weight age for each section:
- CAT/XAT/GMAT – 20 percent weight age
- MICAT score (Best of the two)- 30 percent
- GE- 20 percent
- PI- 30 percent
